In the garden
Despite the fact that it typically rains on nearly a third of the days of the year in the UK, we still manage to use 7-10% of our household tap water on our garden. This is water which has had to undergo various energy-consuming filtering and treatment processes before it's then pumped to our homes for us to then simply pour a chunk of it onto our gardens!
We also generate many millions of tonnes of waste from our gardens every year. Almost all of this could be composted, yet a good portion of it is currently still sent to landfill site instead - where every tonne then produces 300-500 cubic metres of landfill gas.
With a little extra thought, care and effort in our gardens, we can have a positive impact on reducing our carbon footprint and protect our precious clean water supplies throughout the UK.
Your garden can also become the perfect place to grow your own produce and a haven for planting carbon-sucking trees and plants too!
