Stretch your legs
Rather than spending an afternoon in front of the TV, make an effort to venture into the great outdoors.
It can be very easy to spend your evenings and weekends watching TV, playing computer games or listening to music. But all of these pastimes are highly energy hungry for your home and won’t do much to help your own energy levels either.
Instead of depending on electrical goods for your entertainment, why not try going out for a walk around your local area?
There are loads of health benefits to walking, including lowered blood pressure, reduced cholesterol and body fat and a reduced risk of diabetes to name just a few. Add to this is the money saving benefit you will see from turning off those electrical items and sticking on a pair of walking shoes, and it becomes a very worthwhile way to spend an afternoon.
As there’s not much point in taking up walking to help reduce pollution and then driving 50 miles to reach a good bit of green, try walking around your local area and, if you do want to travel further to walk, consider taking friends or family with you in a car share.
If you plan to make a more regular hobby of walking, why not consider joining a local walking club who will provide guided walks and often offer a car-share scheme for members. They will also advise you on the sort of clothing and footwear you will need before taking part in more serious walking.
makes you think...
A brisk one-mile walk in 20 minutes burns around 100 calories - as much as swimming for 10 minutes, playing football for 12 minutes or doing aerobics for 16 minutes.
