Recycle your waste paper

Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 14:17

Collect newspapers, magazines, junk mail and other waste paper for recycling.

36% of the waste currently sat in landfill sites is paper that could have been reused or recycled.

Our homes can be a haven for waste paper, from newspapers and magazines through to brochures, letters, leaflets, printer paper and more.

Making an effort to ensure all the waste paper in your home goes for recycling rather than simply thrown into the main rubbish bin destined for a landfill site can have a big impact on reducing the amount of raw materials and energy needed to produce fresh paper.

Many councils now provide recycling collection services for paper. Alternatively, find your nearest paper recycling centre.

  • We use 12.5 million tonnes of paper and cardboard every year in the UK.

  • Every tonne of paper that is recycled saves 17 trees, 34,500 litres of water and over a tonne and a half of CO2.
