Fit a flow reducer to your showerhead
Installing a Low-Flow showerhead is one of the most effective water conservation methods you can use in your home.
Low-flow showerheads work by restricting the flow of the water and forcing it through very small apertures. This increases the velocity of the water, creating a very fine but "wet" feeling spray pattern.
A low-flow showerhead can result in you using as much as 70% less water for your shower than if you used a regular showerhead. Many varieties also have a push-button shutoff valve which allows the user to interrupt the flow of water while soaping up, saving even more.
If you're thinking of purchasing a low-flow showerhead, you first need to find out whether you can benefit from one. To do this, put a 2 litre (4 pint) saucepan on the floor of the shower and position it in the middle of the water stream. With the shower on full, count how many seconds it takes to fill the pan. If it takes fewer than 12 seconds, a low-flow showerhead would be a benefit.
