The Olpe-Rehringhausen wind project has changed hands, with Perigus Energy Deutschland acquiring the project rights from ABO Energy under an agreement signed by the two project developers. The deal hands Perigus full responsibility for delivering the scheme, which already holds planning consent.

The district of Olpe in North Rhine-Westphalia granted approval on 26 March 2026 for the construction and operation of three 7 MW wind turbines. According to Baltic Wind, those three machines give the project a total installed capacity of 21 MW, a detail that matters when assessing how much actual generation Perigus is taking on. The turbines sit within a designated wind priority area in the Rother Stein forest area, near the B55 federal road.

What the Olpe-Rehringhausen wind project actually delivers

Twenty-one megawatts is a modest figure by offshore or large onshore standards, but it is not trivial in the context of North Rhine-Westphalia’s onshore pipeline. A fully permitted 21 MW project in an established wind priority zone removes the single biggest risk in German wind development: the planning process. Germany’s permitting system has been a persistent bottleneck, and an approved site with three consented turbines carries real commercial value regardless of which developer’s name is on the agreement.

The turbines are located in the Rother Stein forest area, and the report offers no detail on turbine manufacturer or rotor configuration. What is clear is that the consent covers construction and operation, meaning Perigus inherits a project that can move directly to procurement and construction planning rather than returning to square one with local authorities.

Synergies with the nearby Windfart development

Perigus Energy is also developing the Windfart wind farm, situated approximately three kilometres east of Olpe-Rehringhausen. The proximity of the two projects is, by Perigus’s own account, more than geographical convenience. The company says it creates synergies across planning, implementation and subsequent operation, which in practice could mean shared grid connection infrastructure, consolidated operations and maintenance contracts, and reduced overhead across both sites. Whether those synergies translate into materially lower levelised costs will depend on execution, but the strategic logic of clustering adjacent permitted assets is sound.

Stefan Bachmaier, managing director of Perigus Energy Germany, framed the acquisition in terms of pipeline discipline rather than opportunism. ‘The acquisition of Olpe-Rehringhausen underlines our ability to secure attractive projects in a targeted manner, even in the current market environment,’ he said. The phrase ‘current market environment’ is doing some work there: German onshore wind has faced rising turbine costs, grid connection queues and community opposition in certain Länder, so the ability to acquire a consented project rather than build a pipeline from scratch has genuine strategic value.

ABO Energy’s decision to transfer the rights rather than develop the project itself is not explained in the agreement disclosure. Project rights trading of this kind is common in the German market, where developers frequently build and sell permitted pipelines rather than proceeding through to ownership and operation. Nothing in the announcement suggests the transfer reflects any difficulty with the project itself.

With the Olpe-Rehringhausen wind project now in Perigus’s hands and planning consent already secured, the next concrete milestone will be the start of construction activity, which Perigus says it will lead.
